Way of working
Below you will find a brief step-by-step description representing how I generally work with UX/product design projects.
The process may differ from case to case depending on the scope, my role and other factors.
In my opinion, product design always needs to be a team effort. To ensure the best possible outcome, I always strive to work as closely as possible with the entire product team and also involve actual users throughout the process
I believe in agile product development using Scrum or other agile methodologies.
1. Get a fundamental understanding of the business and the project
- Learn about the general business goals.
- Learn about the goals for the project.
- Learn about what problems and/or desires the target group has that the project aims to solve
2. Learn about the current state
Analyze the current website/app (if any)
- Web/app analytics.
- User behavior analytics.
- User interviews.
- Customer support team interviews.
- Sales team interviews.
Market and audience analysis
- Mapping competitors’ offers, strengths, weaknesses.
- Interviews with target audience representatives.
3. Define the scope
- Define a minimal viable product.
- Set a roadmap.
4. Find inspiration
- How have others solved the same or similar problems/desires that we strive to solve?
- Can we find inspiration in completely different types of services or business areas?
- Find and learn best practises.
- Specific user expectations for this type of service or business area.
5. Iterative prototyping with feedback and user testing rounds
- Simple sketches.
- Wireframes.
- High fidelity mockups.
- Prototypes.
6. Implementation
- Support the dev team during the implementation.
7. Launch
- Inform and educate internally (especially the customer support team and the sales team).
- Internal testing.
- Invite groups of actual users for additional bug testing.
- Public beta.
- Public launch.
8. To the future and beyond…
- Evaluate.
- Keep optimizing/improving based on data, user testing and feedback.
